The Sound Dept. is a partnership between music producers François Gamaury and Ludovic Morin, specialising in music for films, TV idents, advertising and non-broadcast media Based at Iguana Studios in Brixton, South London. The Sound Dept. also records and produces artists, musicians and indie bands.
François has been releasing music since 2005 under the name Franz Kirmann on various labels including Lobe and Photogram in London and Lona Records in Hong Kong. His signature sound of blending cutting edge electronica with an acoustic, almost indie instrumentation, is often described as visual and cinematic. His records have been championed by world famous DJs and artists such as Laurent Garnier, The Black Dog and Surgeon.
Previously a film editor (credits include cutting documentaries for BBC4 and Arte, France) and managing director of London based production company Day For Night Films, François has always had a strong relationship with the film and television medium.
Ludovic's background mixes sound engineering with classical music training. Working extensively in the studio and in the field, his recent focus has been live and studio recordings for various bands and orchestras in Paris.
Last year saw him recording and mixing Sigur Ros, Vampire Weekend and Fleet Foxes live as part of the high profile Take Away Shows of the parisian collective La Blogothèque.
He has also recorded numerous programs for French national broadcasters France Television and written film scores for short fiction projects in France. He is praised for his uncompromising approach to sound design and full mastery of modern recording techniques.
